Report: Disney Plotting Three “Young Han Solo” Movies

Ben A. Pruchnie/Getty Images for Walt Disney StudiosAlden Ehrenreich, who was recently confirmed to play a young Han Solo in a Star Wars spin-off movie due out in 2018, may be playing the role more than once.

The New York Daily News reports that he signed a three-picture deal, meaning sequels could be in the offing.

“There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential,” the newspaper’s source says. “Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters.”

Solo’s past has been explored in a series of novels, however much of that so-called “Expanded Universe” material is not considered “canon,” giving Lucasfilm and Disney a wide creative berth to explore the smug smugler’s past.

There’s been no official word from Disney, which is releasing the new Star Wars movies and is the parent company of ABC News.
