Practice of Dentistry

Narrative:
Within the month of September, 2017, the Webster County Attorney’s Office received a written complaint from the Iowa Dental Board in reference to an entity practicing dental work within the city of Fort Dodge without the proper certifications and licenses.

The Iowa Dental Board and their legal counsel informed the Webster County Attorney’s Office that the entity “Smile Labs of Fort Dodge” located at 201 S 12th St in Fort Dodge had been providing services to others without the proper state certifications and licenses. The Iowa Dental Board referred this matter to the Webster County Attorney’s Office and requested a criminal investigation be conducted into violations under state code.

Throughout the course of the months to follow multiple search warrants have been executed by the Fort Dodge Police Department relating to this case involving at least one at the business, which is now closed, and one at a local residence. Through the investigation it was learned that the owner/operator of “Smile Labs of Fort Dodge” had been providing services out of the business without the proper state certifications and licenses. It’s estimated that prior to the business being closed, the owner/operator had been performing services to numerous individuals for almost one full year.

The Fort Dodge Police Department is continuing this investigation and is asking for anyone that received services from “Smile Labs of Fort Dodge” to please contact Detective Tom Steck with the Fort Dodge Police Department. Through the course of the investigation, officers also learned of complaints of theft/fraud also being involved with the business. The Fort Dodge Police Department is asking for all information available to properly investigate these claims.

As in all cases, all involved are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
