Early Morning Accident Leaves Fort Dodge Man in Critical Condition

A man is in critical condition after a single vehicle accident early this morning in Fort Dodge. The accident occurred at around 1:12 Am at the intersection of South 22nd Street and 9 ½ Avenue South. Information provided to the Fort Dodge police department states that a 2006, GMC Sierra 2500 crew cab  pickup truck had struck a tree and had intruded into the drivers side of the vehicle.

The pickup and was occupied by 4 individuals, 3 of which, including the driver were able to make it out of the vehicle under their own power and were treated with non life threatening injuries.  A remaining passenger was unconscious in the vehicle  and paramedics removed the 36 year old male from the truck and he was transported to Unity Point Trinity Regional Medical Center in critical condition. He was then transported via Life Flight to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

The man remains in critical condition and his name will not be released at this time. The Fort Dodge Police Department, along with a Traffic Accident Investigator with the Iowa State Patrol are investigating the incident. Preliminary stages of the investigation indicate that alcohol may have been a contributing factor to the accident.
