Authorities in Algona are investigating a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of several elementary schools Tuesday morning. Students at Lucia Wallace, Bryant, and Bertha Godfrey Elementary Schools were evacuated this morning and a school alert was sent out to parents at 11:30am. Classes in the Middle and High School were allowed to continue. Algona Schools Superintendent Marty Fonley says the nature of the bomb threat was a phone call placed to the Kossuth County Sheriff's Office. Fonley says students were allowed back into their buildings by 1:00pm:
Kossuth County authorities are also investigating a bank robbery that occurred in nearby Fenton. The West Iowa Bank was robbed this morning by two suspects who reportedly left the scene in a small gray vehicle. An undetermined amount of cash was taken from the bank. No injuries were reported. It is not known if the two incidents are linked. A similar incident occurred in Fort Dodge last month.
