Butler Parents Notified of Friday Afternoon Incident
Parents in the Fort Dodge Community School District were notified of an incident that occurred at Butler Elementary School Friday afternoon. At around 2:00pm, an unidentified man in a vehicle approached a fenced in area where students were playing at recess and asked a female student for help looking for a lost dog. Superintendent Doug Van Zyl said students were brought back into the school and the Fort Dodge Police Department was notified of the incident, but no schools in the district were placed in any form of lockdown. Police Chief Tim Carmody said there is not enough evidence to support any possible abduction attempt, as the man never left the vehicle. A note was sent home with all Butler students and a call was sent out district-wide notifying parents of the incident.
