The Fort Dodge City Council held a lengthy discussion regarding three resolutions aimed at restructuring the city's Public Works Department. The council voted to table two of the three resolutions while voting down the third. City Manager David Fierke and HR Director Jim Vollmer suggested approving the measures in order to get the process moving and to allow for the grievance process to perhaps give some structure towards future discussions with the AFSCME union. Mayor Matt Bemrich was opposed to the idea.
The council tabled a motion to remove three assistant superintendent positions and renaming them as lead worker positions. Also tabled was the reorganization itself of the department from seven departments down to three. By a 4-3 vote, the council voted down the creation of a Water Utility Operations Manager. All three measures are expected to be on the council's agenda in two weeks.
