For the second season in a row, the Fort Dodge Dodger baseball team reached the substate final but couldn't break through to a state tournament appearance. At Dowling Catholic High School last night, the top-seeded Maroons advanced to the state tournament with a 10-0 win over the Dodgers in five innings. The Maroons scored six runs in the third, thanks to a three-run double from Luke DeVenney and a two-run shot from Jake Lewton. Three more Dowling runs would score in the 4th and the final run would come in the bottom of the 5th. Dodger head coach Blake Utley said afterwards that his confidence is still sky high in the direction of the program:
The Dodgers finished their year with a 24-19 overall record.
