Downtown Fort Dodge Fire Ruled Arson; Reward Offered
Investigators say the fire that completely destroyed a former church building in downtown Fort Dodge was intentionally set. Fort Dodge Fire Chief Kent Hulett said Sunday that the cause of the fire was determined as arson after it was investigated by multiple agencies, including Fort Dodge fire and police, the state fire marshal’s office, and Iowa DCI. No one was reported inside the building during the fire, but Hulett says there's a report that a woman was inside the building before the fire was reported. The investigation continues. Hulett says North 1st Street between 10th and 11th and 11th Street between North 1st and Central is closed until further notice. The Iowa State Fire Marshal’s arson hotline is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information helpful to the investigation.
