FD, Police Union Begin Labor Talks

The city of Fort Dodge has begun contract talks with the union representing its police force. On Tuesday, the two sides met and presented initial proposals during an open meeting. Over the next several months, all negotiations would now occur behind closed doors. The city's initial proposal was a two-year contract effective July 1, 2014 that would give officers a 1.5% raise each year. The labor union's initial proposal was a four-year contract that would award 6% raises each year. City Manager David Fierke says the current contract would expire on June 30 of next year.
