The Fort Dodge Community School District and community members met at the new middle school Monday night to officially celebrate its opening. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in the middle school auditorium, a 650 seat facility that figures to host several school and community events in the future. Both school board President Stuart Cochrane and district superintendent Doug Van Zyl said the auditorium itself was debated for quite some time:
Van Zyl added that while school functions take priority for the auditorium, a rental agreement would allow for various community functions to be held there as well. No public funds were used for the construction of the $32 million middle school, which included about $6 million for the auditorium.
