After much deliberation and feedback from city residents, a split Fort Dodge City Council approved the third reading of a controversial animal control ordinance. Prior to a 4-3 vote, the council heard from several residents, many of whom were critical of laws limiting the number of dogs a person could own and requiring dogs be restrained on private property. Councilmen Don Wilson, Barney Patterson, Mark Taylor, and Dean Hill were the four yes votes, while Kim Alstott, Dave Flattery, and Andy Fritz voted against.

A new fee schedule under the ordinance will take effect on November 11.
