FD Council Approves Contract for Work on Crosstown Connector
The Fort Dodge City Council has approved a construction contract that will help lead to the creating of the crosstown connector. During its business meeting last night, the council approved a contract with Decorah-based Wicks Construction on a 4-2 vote. Construction crews will be working on First Avenue South between Fourth and Ninth streets, and will link First and Second avenues with a roundabout at Sixth Street. Councilmen Don Wilson and Dean Hill voted no on concerns that not all the land needed had been acquired. City Engineer Chad Schaeffer said during discussion that appraisals on four or five of the properties had been completed and negotiations with owners will begin soon. The crosstown connector is expected to ultimately run as a two-way street for its entire length.
