Floyd County to Close Jail; House Inmates in Mitchell County
The Floyd County sheriff intends to close the county jail and send inmates to Mitchell County as a cost-saving move. Sheriff Rick Lynch says five jail employees will lose their jobs, but the move should save Floyd County about $100,000 annually. Two employees would remain as the jail is converted to use as a weekday temporary holding facility. Lynch says it would have cost about $5 million to build a new jail. He says that compares to about $135,000 a year to house inmates in the Mitchell County Jail in Osage.
