Fort Dodge Man Accused of Sexual Abuse; Victim Hospitalized With Knife Injuries



A Fort Dodge man is facing multiple charges in connection to an alleged sexual assault that occurred late Friday morning. Assistant Police Chief Kevin Doty reports 35 year-old Jeremy Smith is being held on felony charges of 1st degree sexual abuse and assault on a police officer. Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Kenyon Road at around 11:45am Friday for a domestic disturbance. A female victim sustained multiple injuries from a knife to her upper leg and abdominal area. She is listed in stable condition at UnityPoint Trinity Regional Medical Center. Three Eagles Communications does not name victims of alleged sexual abuse. During questioning, Smith allegedly attacked detective Tom Steck, injuring him and other officers. In addition, investigators are looking to talk to an unknown person who attempted to stop the crime prior to officers arriving.
