High School Football Kicks Off Friday Night

It’s kickoff week for Iowa high school football, as teams from around the area open Friday night. Every new season brings some unknowns but this year even more so. One program looking at a major change is St. Edmond. The Gaels will play in the 8 player class this season for the first time ever. Their Head Coach Matt Dillon says he’s been doing his homework.

The Gaels open Friday at Ar-We-Va.

Fort Dodge Football is coming into year #2 of the Coach Nik Moser era. He says he feels good about the continuity of the coaching staff heading into this season.

The Dodgers will renew one of Iowa’s oldest rivalries on Friday when they host Mason City.

Humboldt football underwent a renaissance a year ago, earning their 1st winning season under Coach Derrick Elman. He now goes into his 4th season at the helm and says he feels good about the veteran leadership for his squad this season.

The Wildcats open with a Webster City team that made the 3A State Quarterfinals last year.

In Manson, the mantra heading into the season is “rebuilding tradition together”. Cougar Coach Marty Hart is an alumnus and former player there. He is looking to lead the program to a successful season in year two of his tenure after a tumultuous first season.

Manson NW Webster opens their season Friday night hosting traditional rival Pocahontas Area.
