Many Iowa residents are reacting negatively to the news that the International Olympic Committee plans to do away with wrestling at the 2020 Olympic games. Among those is Fort Dodge Senior High wrestling coach Bobby Thompson, who said today that he was floored by the news. 2016 would be the last time that wrestling, which was part of the first modern Olympics, would be an Olympic sport. Thompson says the news is a big blow to a sport that offers no professional opportunities:
The International Olympic Committee eliminated Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling from a pool of sports that included the pentathalon, taekwondo, and field hockey.
