Iowa House, Senate Approve Education Spending Bill
Lawmakers in both the Iowa House and Senate have approved a budget compromise to fund the state’s schools. A $986 million education budget was passed by a 28-21 margin in the Senate and an 89-8 vote in the House, and heads to Governor Terry Branstad for signature. Included in the bill is a $24 million increase to regent universities to maintain a tuition freeze, an additional $8 million towards community colleges, and $5 million for Kibbie Grants. Locally, both State Representative Helen Miller and Senator Daryl Beall voted in favor of the bill.
