Law Enforcement Plans Holiday Enforcement Blitz

Local and state law enforcement will be teaming up all next week to ensure Iowa residents enjoy a safe holiday. From July 1 through the 7th, law enforcement agencies will be conducting high visibility enforcement, cracking down on traffic violators with a special interest on seatbelt violations. Since 1986, Iowa's seat belt law has been a primary law, and violators could be forced to pay a fine of $127.50. Stubbs hopes the STEP program will encourage residents to join a growing percentage of people who are buckling up

As of June 12, the Iowa Department of Transportation reports 117 traffic fatalities this year. That number is 38 less than at the same time in 2012.
