Exciting changes are planned for the Fort Dodge Senior High baseball stadium. The Dodger baseball program is seeking to raise about $700,000 for a series of renovations that would make Ed McNiel Field a state-of-the-art high school baseball facility. Varsity head coach Blake Utley says the project includes adding permanent lighting for night games, permanent covered grandstand bleacher seating, handicapped accessible sidewalks, and a brand new press box. Utley says the changes are a long time coming, and will greatly improve the fan experience:
The hope is crews are able to break ground following the 2015 baseball season to be completed in time for the 2016 season. The press box will be named The Gene Elston Press Box, a homage to the Fort Dodge native who served as the long-time voice of the Houston Astros.
