MidAmerican Energy Wind Energy Project Approved

The Iowa Utilities Board has approved a plan from the state's largest utility company to install hundreds of wind turbines by the end of 2015. Governor Terry Branstad said Monday that the board had approved the $1.9 billion project from the MidAmerican Energy Company. Construction will begin in September and the turbines will be located in five Iowa counties; Webster, Grundy, Madison, Marshall, and O'Brien. MidAmerican officials say the project will pay out $3 million dollars annually to private landowners and should generate over $360 million in additional property tax revenues over the next 30 years.
