In a court appearance Friday morning in Webster County Magistrate Court, 26 year old Derek McElroy of Fort Dodge, the man charged in the killing of Brandyn Preston, was held in jail on a $1 million bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for Friday, July 20th at 4:30 PM. Preston died on January 22nd in Tampa, Florida. An autopsy confirmed the 19 year old had died from a gunshot wound that he suffered on Mother's Day in 2011. McElroy was arrested on Thursday, more than a year after the shooting took place.
