Democratic state Senator Jack Hatch is officially getting in the 2014 race for governor. Hatch announced Monday in Des Moines that he will seek the Democratic nomination next year. He pledged to boost the minimum wage, make college more affordable and to continue expanding access to health care. Hatch will face Cedar Rapids state Representative Tyler Olson in the Democratic primary. Governor Terry Branstad is widely expected to seek a sixth term, but has not yet announced his plans.
