U.S. Senator Tom Harkin invited Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois to Ames to host a forum on immigration reform. The event, held in Republican Congressman Steve King's district yesterday, was in response to remarks King made earlier this month suggesting that many young unauthorized immigrants are drug runners. Harkin said today's immigration system is broken and doesn't work for immigrants who want to a better future. The forum, held at Ames Middle School, featured young immigrants, farmers, students and others discussing reform proposals.
