Due to improving credit trends and a significant decrease in credit card collection activity, the Wells Fargo credit card services division has taken a close look at the overall needs of the credit card collection centers throughout the US. It was determined that the bank no longer needed 4 collection centers and the number will be reduced to 3. As part of this analysis, the decision was made to close the Fort Dodge collection center which is located on the 2nd floor of the Wells Fargo Building off of Central Avenue.
"This will impact 48 positions ranging from credit collections employees to collections managers. These changes will only impact the credit card collections division and in no way will impact any other divisions of Wells Fargo," said Community Bank President of Fort Dodge Duane Amhof. "The employees were informed on Monday and they will continue in their roles until March 31st." These employees will continue to receive normal pay and their benefits through April 13th. Amhof also added that depending on their years of service, a severance program will also be available.
Employees will have the option to look at other positions within Wells Fargo. Outplacement services such as resume writing and interview skills will be provided.
According to Amhof, "This in no way is a reflection on anything that was happening at this location. We have a great staff and they are all very skilled. It's just an unfortunate situation due to the improvement in collections, the need just isn't as high as it once was."
With the Fort Dodge collections location being closed, those functions will be consolidated into the other 3 collection centers across the US.
