The City of Fort Dodge has been recognized by Character Counts in Iowa with the Community of Character Award. The Des Moines based organization is devoted to the six pillars of character: Caring, Citizenship, Fairness, Respect, Responsibility and Trustworthiness.
Amy Smit is in charge of the Iowa Character Awards and she says that Fort Dodge has been a great city to work with. "Fort Dodge has been working in Character Counts from the very beginning when we started in Iowa," says Smit. "They have great community initiatives from having local events...to their police cars even having the six pillars on them. The city has taken some great ownership over the six pillars and they want to promote it throughout the community."
Fort Dodge city officials will attend the award ceremony in West Des Moines on August 3.
