Law enforcement officials have made an arrest in the shooting death of Brandyn Preston, which occured back on Mother's day morning in 2011.

On Thursday, Derek McElroy, age 26 of Fort Dodge, was arrested and charged with 1st degree murder. He is in the Webster County Jail, and will make his initial court appearance in Webster County District Court, tomorrow at 9AM.

Investigators with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, DCI Criminalistics Lab, detectives with the Webster County Sheriff’s Department and the Fort Dodge Police Department all worked on the case. Fort Dodge Police Chief Tim Carmody says, "Our thanks go out to everyone who stepped up to provide closure for the Preston family."

Preston died in Tampa, Florida on January 22nd, 2012.
