A firefighter has been hurt while battling a house fire in
the Hamilton County town of Jewell.

A passer-by reported the fire around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Officials think none of the house residents was home when the fire started.

The firefighter was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. His name and condition haven't been released.

Officials think the fire began in the house basement. The cause is being investigated.
