Car Chase Ends in Des Moines River
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A high-speed chase in Des Moines overnight ended with the driver trying to swim away in the Des Moines River.
Des Moines Police Captain Mike Hoffmann said officers got a call around 1:00 a.m. about a possible drunk driver in a van without headlights.
When officers tried to pull the van over, the driver refused to stop.
Captain Hoffman said the man intentionally drove into the Des Moines River near 1220 Prospect.
Officers saw the man struggling to swim away, so they called for dive teams.
The man was rescued and is now being treated at a local hospital.
