Teen Hit by Car Near High School in Des Moines



DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A person was hit by a vehicle near Roosevelt High School in Des Moines Thursday afternoon.

The crash was reported near Polk Boulevard and Harwood Drive about 2:57 p.m. a couple blocks south of the school.

Police said two cars were headed south on Polk Boulevard when 14-year-old Matthew Gardners tried to cross street.  The first car stopped and waived the Gardners across.

The second car went around first car and hit the Gardners, police said.

Gardners was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
