IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) _ An Iowa City couple charged in the death of a toddler will be tried at the same time in December.

Mireya Balderas and her boyfriend, Jorge Perez, were arrested in June in the death of Balderas' 20-month-old son, Marcus. The toddler died in April from blunt force trauma to the head.

Balderas is charged with one count of child endangerment resulting in death. Perez faces two counts.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen says Perez waived his right to a speedy trial last week. Court records show his trial is set for Dec. 11, the same day as Balderas' trial. Balderas previously waived her right to a speedy trial.
