Big Crowd Sending Off 60 Iowa Troops In Training for Afghanistan
JOHNSON, Iowa (AP) _ A big crowd turned out for a sendoff ceremony for 60 Iowa Army National Guard troops going to Afghanistan.
About 1,000 people crowded into a hall at Camp Dodge in Johnson on Tuesday to see the soldiers off before they head to Texas for training.
The soldiers are with the 1034th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, which provides support to other troops, such as moving and tracking supplies. They'll be at Fort Hood in Texas for about a month for training and then Afghanistan for nine months of service.
