Impact of Connecticut School Shootings Felt Locally
The tragic shooting incident at a Connecticut elementary school is certainly being felt locally, as well. At around 9:30am ET, a gunman opened fire on several students and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. Multiple reports say the death toll is in the mid-twenties. Doug Van Zyl, Fort Dodge Community Schools Superintendent, says no additional security measures were implemented today, but the district will re-evaluate its security procedures:
St Edmond's High School principal John Howard says the staff will make an announcement to students and ask them to pray for the victims. In addition, a safety drill that was scheduled for next week will most likely be postponed in light of today's tragedy.
