Fort Dodge City Council will move forward with plans to have an engineering firm perform another study on the hydroelectric dam. The City will pay McClure Engineering almost $18,000 to perform a study to determine if the Des Moines River could be used as a viable water source. City Manager David Fierke says before any decision can be made about the dam's future, the question of using the river as a water source must be answered:
Michael Washburn from McClure Engineering told council members yesterday that currently, the city uses about 3 million gallons of water per day, but that number could increase to 30 million when the North Central Ag Park is fully developed. The feasibility study is expected to take about 9 weeks to complete.
