Tuesday saw the merger of four area school districts into two. Residents in Calhoun County voted to merge two school districts, as did voters in the Algona and Titonka school districts. In Calhoun County, the Southern Cal and Rockwell City-Lytton School Districts will merge into one and will be called the South Central Calhoun school district. Voters in the Southern Cal School District approved the measure by a 340-86 margin, while voters in the Rockwell City-Lytton School District passed it by a 253-67 vote. The Algona and Titonka districts will merge into the Algona Community School District. That measure passed by a combined 403-59 margin.
