Iowa Senate Looks to Restore Rockwell City Funding
The Iowa Senate has passed a bill that looks to restore funds to Rockwell City following the 2010 census. The plan, which was written up by Senator Daryl Beall, seeks to correct a 2010 census mistake, which showed Rockwell City's population had dropped 555 people since the 2000 census. Because of the mistake, Rockwell City has not received about $48,000 worth of road use tax each year since the 2010 census. The 555 people unaccounted for was nearly equal to the population of the North Central Correctional Facility. Rockwell City officials submitted an appeal with the census bureau in 2011. The senate bill will now head to the Iowa House for consideration.
