DCI: Still Optomistic Shepard is Alive

Search crews continue looking for a 15 year-old Dayton girl 48 hours after she was reported missing. A map provided in a news release this afternoon shows search crews primarily targeting areas south of Dayton and in northern Boone County.  This morning,  DCI Special Agent Bill Kietzman reported that backpacks belonging to Kathlynn Shepard and a 12 year-old girl were found in the 400 block of Kale Road in Boone County. He said this afternoon that along with the 12 year-old girl's testimony, the findings are the best lead investigators have had since Monday. Webster County Sheriff Jim Stubbs said the rough terrain and thorough approach could mean a long search is still coming:

Investigators are asking any hunters that may have had hunting cameras in the area to check their recorders and report any findings to local law enforcement. Shepard's family released a written statement, thanking all who have helped search for Kathlynn and for the community's support.
