Local and state law enforcement will be teaming up all next week to ensure Iowa residents enjoy a safe holiday. From July 1 through the 7th, law enforcement agencies will be conducting high visibility enforcement, cracking down on traffic violators with a special interest on seatbelt violations. Since 1986, Iowa's seat belt law has been a primary law, and violators could be forced to pay a fine of $127.50. As of June 12, the Iowa Department of Transportation reports 117 traffic fatalities this year. That number is 38 less than at the same time in 2012.
