Proposed MidAmerican Energy Rate Increases Discussed

The Iowa Utilities Board and MidAmerican Energy hosted a public forum to discuss a proposed rate increase. Just six MidAmerican customers attended the meeting where MidAmerican officials outlined the first proposed rate increase since 1995. Under the proposal, monthly rates would increase $8.16 over a three year period, which adds up to $135.6 million dollars in additional revenue over the time period. Terry Ousley, MidAmerican's Vice President of Customer Satisfaction, said the increase was asked for primarily due to rising operating costs

The meeting at the Starlite Hotel was the last in a series of public forums held by the utility and the state utility board. The board must make a decision on the rate increase by March 1 of next year.
