Greene County Considers Casino Proposal
Greene County officials held a public meeting on a casino proposal that could create about 250 new jobs. During the meeting, representatives from Grow Greene County encouraged residents to vote in favor of allowing gambling, saying a casino could generate more than $10 million dollars in tax revenue over the next decade as well as $12 million more in donations. A proposal calls for a casino operated by Wild Rose Entertainment to be located in Jefferson near U.S. Highway 30 and Iowa Highway 4. Before it could be built, Greene County voters must approve gaming during an August 6 referendum and the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission must issue the project a license.
