The Fort Dodge City Council approved a couple of construction contracts during its meeting. The council hired Fort Dodge-based Jensen Builders for work on a new segment of trails for the amount of $427,212. The trail will begin on 2nd Avenue South and 3rd Street, go across the Karl King Viaduct towards A Street, and will go south and end near Regency Court West. Jensen Builders beat out Godberson-Smith Construction and Hovey Construction for the project. The council also approved a contract for an Ankeny-based firm for design work on new traffic lights. The council hired Snyder and Associates for $49,700 to design a new traffic light pattern at the eastern driveway of Menards. That work is being done in conjunction with the planned conversion of Fifth Avenue South from four lanes to three, east of the driveway.
