Greene County Voters Approve Gambling Referendum
Voters in Greene County have passed a referendum to allow gambling in the county. With the vote, the county is expected to move forward with plans for a casino to be built near Jefferson. Specifically, the proposed casino would be located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and Iowa Highway 4 north of Jefferson. County officials say 57% of eligible voters turned out, with 75% voting in favor of the proposal. Now that the referendum has passed, Greene County must submit an application to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission for the casino.
