Branstad Celebrates "Historic" Education Bill at Iowa Central
Iowa's governor celebrated a historic year for education at Iowa Central Community College's East Campus Tuesday afternoon. Governor Terry Branstad held a commemorative signing ceremony for House Bill 604, a bi-partisan agreement that includes $5 million for adult basic education and work-force funding for Iowa community colleges. Branstad said he has a lofty goal of creating 200,000 jobs over the next five years, something that can't be done if community colleges don't have the tools they need:
Dr. Dan Kinney, Iowa Central president, said as a result of the bill, Iowa Central was able to add a Process Technology degree program. There are already 12 students enrolled in the program for the fall.
