Fort Dodge Survivor Says Bill Paced to Save Settlement Funds for Iowa Survivors of Boy Scout Sex Abuse Set to Stall in Iowa House

Every Iowa Senator voted to pass a bill that protects the settlement money of 700 Iowans who were sexually abused at the hands of boy scout leaders decades ago, but that bill may never get a chance to reach the Governor’s desk due to a hold up in the Iowa House.

Fort Dodge resident and sex abuse survivor Joe Gargano is now praying that the house hears his prayers and the prayers of the 699 other Iowans whos lives were changed forever by years of sexual abuse by an organization of leaders that were supposed to protect him and other little boys.

The current law in Iowa says survivors of child sex abuse must file lawsuits seeking damages before they turn 20 or within 4 years of realizing they were victims of sex abuse as a child. 

Due to the current wording in legislation, the survivors of boy scout abuse would receive about 30-40 percent of the settlement money they should.

Radio Iowa previously reported that Republican House Speaker Pat Grassley said the legislation could have broad implications. 

Republican Senator Tim Kraayenbrink of Fort Dodge tells Alpha Media the bill on the table would only waive the time limits for the situation involving the specific settlement in question.

Gargano is praying that his years of fighting will not be for nothing and that other victims will not have to suffer another blow.
