Three candidates for a Ward 1 Fort Dodge City Council seat fielded questions from the public during a Thursday night open forum. Incumbent Mark Taylor and challengers Terry Moehnke and Eugene Newsome touched on a variety of topics, including the crosstown connector plan, street improvements, and what their priorities would be if elected. Taylor called the crosstown connector an "ill-conceived plan", while Moehnke said it was irresponsible to not vote for it. Newsome was generally in favor of the crosstown connector, but would want to look closer before being completely on board.
After the forum, Taylor highlighted the Northwest Corridor project, the Freedom Rock, and a new west side housing development as success stories during his first term, and would hope to add to that list in another term. Moenhke pinpointed street improvements, new and updated housing, and economic development as his main points of concern. The Ward 1 primary election will be held on October 8.
