Ward 1 Race a Focal Point in Final Candidate Forum



Tuesday night provided Fort Dodge residents a final opportunity to hear from candidates running for open city council seats. The Well Informed Webster People hosted a forum featuring candidates running for Ward 1, two at-large seats, as well as Mayor Matt Bemrich, who is running unopposed. Much of the night was spent discussing the crosstown connector and whether public funds should be used to support the development or a rec center. In Ward 1, challenger Terry Moehnke broke down the funding sources for the crosstown connector, saying there was over $2.5 million in grant money for the project. He went on to say that money would be lost if not spent by next summer. Incumbent Mark Taylor, who has consistently voiced his opposition for the connector, said the money figures were accurate, however some of the funds could be used on other streets in the city.

Taylor highlighted success stories in Ward 1, including the growth of Iowa Central Community College, Friendship Haven, and the Ag Park, and hopes to see more:
