For the first time in school history, the St Edmond football team is headed to the state semifinals. In dominating fashion, the fourth-ranked Gaels blew by No 9 South O'Brien by a 42-3 score. The Gaels stuck to their bread and butter by piling up over 400 rushing yards, including 264 and two touchdowns from T.J. O'Tool and 192 and 4 scores from Vinnie Harvey. After the game, coach Dick Tighe said his team's undefeated run to the state semi's has as much to do with intangibles as talent:
In Tighe's storied coaching career, this marks the first time that he has ever reached the state semi's as a sole head coach. The Gaels will take on unbeaten Van Meter next Saturday at 1:06pm. Sister station Sunny 99.7 will have live coverage beginning at 12:45.
