Fort Dodge to Investigate Possible Zoning Violations

The City of Fort Dodge was notified of possible violations of its zoning ordinance during Tuesday night's city council meeting. Resident Lori Arnold addressed the council, saying a local business was using neighboring property near 8th Avenue South and 31st Street and storing cars and car parts outside. The alleged violator, Custom Auto and Towing, bought the property, which is zoned for commercial use. The two buildings on the site had been vacant for about 5 years. City Manager David Fierke says the city is likely to address the issue this week:

Arnold displayed several pictures of the property, which did show cars and parts visible. Fierke said the city's property inspector has no authority to go on private property without permission. Arnold gave the city consent to see the alleged violation from her property. Representatives from the business were not present at the meeting.
