Rockwell City U.S. Census Mistake Corrected

State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald and senator Daryl Beall were in Rockwell City yesterday to make a check presentation, fixing a mistake made by the Census Bureau in 2010. Beal says the actual deposit of $108,404 was made to Rockwell City a couple of weeks ago. An error in the 2010 census shortchanged Rockwell City over 500 people in population, which was equal to the number of inmates at the North Central Correctional Facility. As a result, the error cost Rockwell City about $48,000 per year in road use tax funds. Legislation introduced by Beal ultimately corrected the mistake and allowed for the funds to be reimbursed

Beal also credited Senator Tom Harkin and Rockwell City officials to successfully push for the legislation.
