Rockford Bridge Should be Complete Late This Month
After months of work and detours, the new bridge over the Shell Rock River in Rockford is nearly complete. Mayor Harry White says the bridge should open to traffic on Nov. 28, Thanksgiving Day. White says workers were pouring concrete for the bridge's east support and removing a pile of dirt from the west side. Next week, crews plan to pour concrete for the west approach and install street lights. Area residents have had to take a long detour since last spring, when a bridge built in the 1920s was removed. The city is paying for the new bridge with bonds and a $1.2 million federal grant.
