State Senator Hopes to Legalize Marijuana in Next Legislative Session

A State Senator from Iowa City says he plans to propose the legalization of medical marijuana during this year's legislative session. Senator Joe Bolkom says he will propose legislation that would reclassify marijuana as a drug with medical benefits and create a medical marijuana program modeled on New Mexico's system. Advocates say medical marijuana eases the symptoms of illnesses such as cancer, Parkinson's Disease, and multiple sclerosis. To date, a total of 20 states have legalized the use of medical marijuana.
